![]() ![]() ![]() Its adaptive five-speed automatic snaps off perfect full-throttle upshifts and its front double-wishbone and rear multi-link suspension keep it pinned down in fast corners. With 37 more horsepower than its C-230 predecessor, the Kompressor charges down the road with the same authority as any bigger, more powerful Mercedes. Some nagging reminders that you're driving a bargain Benz: the steering wheel isn't adjustable unless you spend $240 and the trunk pops open with a clang — no smooth hydraulic struts here.īut time behind the wheel quickly has you forgetting such cheapnesses. I was expecting to dislike the multi-functional tape/CD/radio/cellphone head unit, but found it surprisingly easy to use, with excellent FM reception. Its interior (nicely finished in synthetic leather with walnut accents on my tester) is a tight fit for four. The C-Class is a five-year-old design and its shape is now the least elegant of any Mercedes — a situation not helped by the dark-tinted tail-lamps and new rocker panels added last year. Thanks for the help.Although the current Mercedes-Benz C-Class is, judging by the spy photos and stories I've been seeing with increasing frequency, on its last legs, the latest addition to the line, the 185 hp C-230 Kompressor, proves there's a lot of life still left in the platform. haha I'm kickin myself for not holding out for the C320 or even the C280. I think that will make me feel a little better about my low end mercedes. So far i'm thinking the order of mods is going to be, the Booster, an ECU tune, then maybe smaller brakes. How much could be gained with smaller brakes? One thing I wonder, is how do the 15" rims handle? Just like stock rims? better/worse?ĭo you think I'd notice lower braking speeds with the smaller C240 brake replacement? Also, it just sounds like a big job. It makes the car seem so much slower off the line then my previous SER SPEC-V which it probably is, due to the pedal delay. I've only been driving the car for a little over a week and I've noticed the ~1 sec acceleration delay when you hit the pedal every time. I checked out the Sprint Booster and that was exactly what i was wanting to achieve. I'm not sure if the weight difference will be counter effective to the other upgrades. I'd like to get some black 18's if they make 'em. The other thing i haven't been able to find are black rims. I'll prob get some perforance air filters also to aid in breathing. Has anyone done the ASP pulley upgrade to an '06 C230 sport? Also where did they find the product and what were the details on it? Then i read in a couple places that a new ASP pulley would give another 5 - 10 hp, but i haven't been able to find the ASP pulley for the 2.5L engine model. I was thinking of doing a new exhaust system but it seems the '06 C230 sport has a pretty decent stock exhaust and dumping a grand into a new one for a 1 or 2 hp just isn't worth it to me. Short of buying a $10k supercharger, i think tuning is the best option.īefore i get the ecu re-tuned though i wanted to see what else i could squeeze a couple hp and ft-lbs out of. I've been looking around to see what people have to say are the most effective mods for the car. ![]()
